GREENSBORO, N.C. – As part of the Big South’s 30th Anniversary celebration in 2013-14, the Conference is announcing its first-ever All-Decade Teams to recognize the student-athletes and coaches who excelled in their respective sport since the Conference’s founding in 1983. A committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Teams, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.
The Spartans placed former Spartan Siggi Eyjolfsson and coach Michael Parker to the 1990-99 All-Decade Team. Eyjolfsson is the Spartan’ all-time leading scorer in program history with 185 career points, having scored 75 goals and dishing out 35 assists. He only played two seasons in the Big South Conference but was named to the All-Decade Team.
Eyjolfsson was named the Big South Most Valuable Player in the 1996 season when he scored 53 points. He was named Second Team All-America in 1996, the first of three straight seasons earning All-America status. His play led the Spartans to a 21-2-0 record and a Big South Championship along with an NCAA Tournament appearance.
Parker was the Spartans’ head coach for 26 seasons, compiling a 382-165-26 record during his tenure. He spent five seasons at the helm of UNCG in the Big South Conference leading the Spartans to three championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances. During his tenure in the Big South the Spartans posted a 78-25-5 overall record and a 28-7-3 league mark winning titles in 1993, 1994 and 1996.
