GREENSBORO, N.C. – Keli Foster (Hampton, Va./Bethel), Skye Jefferson (Richmond, Va./Cosby), Jayda Luckie (Norfolk, Va./Maury) and Alison Whitman (Madison, W.Va./Scott) have signed national letters of intent to attend UNCG and play women’s basketball for the Spartans beginning in the fall of 2014, according to an announcement Wednesday by head coach Wendy Palmer.

"I am thrilled to announce the addition of Keli, Jayda, Skye and Alison to our UNCG family,” Palmer said. “These four young ladies will represent our university and our program in a special manner on the floor and in the classroom."

Keli Foster, Guard, 5-7, Hampton, Va. (Bethel)

Foster averaged 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 4.1 steals per game her junior campaign at Bethel High School, earning first-team all-district accolades. She currently serves as a team captain for the Bruins and scored a career-high 24 points in an upset win over powerhouse Hampton High School in January of last season. Foster also excels in the classroom as a member of her school’s honor roll and is a participant in the student athletic training program. She plays her AAU basketball for the Boo Williams Norfolk Express coached by Morris Smith.

Coach Palmer on Foster: “Keli will flourish in our uptempo system and I love how she takes pride in her ability to defend and pressure ballhandlers. Her offensive game has consistently progressed and she still has room to improve. Keli defines what a student-athlete is all about and we are excited for her to join our family.”

Skye Jefferson, Forward/Center, 6-2, Richmond, Va. (Cosby)

Jefferson was the starting center last season for a state championship contending Cosby High School team under head coach Rachel Mead. She helped lead the Titans to a 26-2 overall record and racked up second-team all-district honors. Jefferson is a member of the Boo Williams Richmond AAU program coached by Max Coats and Mike Davis.

Coach Palmer on Jefferson: “Skye’s enthusiasm and contagious, energetic personality also shows up in her game. She uses a great deal of versatility at either post position and has really improved her offensive game over the past year. I am thrilled that Skye is joining our program as she will be able to contribute right away. She has a very bright future ahead of her.”

Jayda Luckie, Guard, 5-9, Norfolk, Va. (Maury)

Luckie averaged 12.7 points per game at Maury High School last season under head coach Jermaine Woods and earned first-team all-district recognition. She helped the Commodores to a 21-6 record as a junior and is a teammate of fellow signee Keli Foster on the Boo Williams Norfolk Xpress AAU program coached by Morris Smith. One of her most memorable moments last season occurred against Mount Vernon when she scored 13 points and hit a buzzer-beating layup at the end of double overtime to give Maury a 79-77 victory.

Coach Palmer on Luckie: “The first thing about Jayda that jumps out at you is her ability to shoot the ball. She has a very quick release and because of her length, can get her shot off from deep. Jayda has improved other parts of her game as well and has become a consistent defender in my opinion. We recruited Jayda for a long time and it was worth the wait.”

Alison Whitman, Center/Forward, 6-3, Madison, W.Va. (Scott)

Whitman is an impact post player who earned third-team all-state. first-team all-district and first-team all-conference honors last season under head coach John Porter at Scott High School. As a sophomore, Whitman helped the Skyhawks to a 25-4 overall record, 8-1 league ledger and a No. 9 ranking in the state. Scott has finished as the state runner up the past two years. Whitman is also a member of the West Virginia Thunder AAU program coached by Scott Johnson.

Coach Palmer on Whitman: “Ali is a very agile post player with a soft touch in the key and a nice face-up shot. She is very active on the boards and can really be an inside presence. We really believe in Ali and as a versatile post, he game will only expand here at UNCG. I am excited at the opportunity to be her coach.”
