GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior men’s cross country runner Paul Chelimo (Chebiemit, Kenya/Chebiemit Boys School) has been named this week’s Blue Chip Performer sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. This is the second year that BCBSNC has sponsored the Blue Chip Performer award, which is chosen weekly from all sports in season and runs throughout the 2013-14 UNCG Athletics season.
Chelimo won his third straight Southern Conference Cross Country Championship Saturday, posting a time of 24:19.72 to win by almost 15 seconds over teammate Paul Katam and by 55 seconds over his closest non-UNCG competitor, Luis Vargas of Elon. He becomes the second straight runner in SoCon history to win three straight individual titles, joining Chattanooga’s Emmanuel Kirwa who won the event from 2007-2009.
