GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s tennis team will compete in the Winthrop Invitational starting Friday, Nov. 1 in Rock Hill, S.C. through Sunday, Nov. 3. This is the final fall tournament for the Spartans.
There will be 15 schools participating in the event including: Winthrop, Wofford, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian college, Campbell, UAB, Kennesaw State, ETSU, Kennesaw State, UNC Asheville, Appalachian State, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Georgia State and NJIT.
UNCG will be bring five players in senior Ahmet Sarioglu (Ankera, Turkey/METU Development Foundation), junior Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale), junior Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood), sophomore Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) and freshman Nazhone Wilkins (Burnsville, Minnesota/Home schooled).
Sarioglu will face Joel Roberts from Presbyterian in the singles main draw. Phillips takes on Andres Alban (NJIT) in the main draw as well. Smith who is coming off a perfect 4-0 mark in last weekend’s tournament will play Appalachian State’s Matt Saltsgaver in the B draw. Murray will face Erik Artursson (NJIT) in the B singles draw. Finally, Wilkins will take on Wofford Graham Duncan in the singles C draw.
The doubles teams will be Sarioglu and Phillips along with partners Smith and Wilkins.
