GREENSBORO, N.C. – Behind the strong pitching performance of senior RHP Dylan Thompson (Snow Camp, N.C./Guilford Technical CC), the Navy team rallied from a Friday deficit to win game three and the UNCG Fall World Series title over the Grey squad Saturday at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
The winning team was decided using a detailed point scoring system.
Thompson threw five shutout innings to keep the potent Grey offense at bay while redshirt junior LHP Blair Betts (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) struck out three over two and two thirds innings. At the plate, sophomore outfielder Julian Abreu (Miami, Fla./Florida Christian) fell a home run short of hitting for the cycle while also delivering three RBI. Junior outfielder Eric Kalbfleisch (Pilot Mountain, N.C./North Stokes) and junior infielder Jordan McDonald (Perth, Australia/Chattanooga State) both went 2-for-4 with Kalbfleisch driving in a pair of runs.
For the Grey team, newcomer and freshman outfielder Kendall McDowell (Fayetteville, N.C./Grey’s Creek) was 2-for-3 at the dish while freshman RHP Adam Swim (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) allowed just two hits in two and two thirds innings pitched.
