GREENSBORO, N.C. – A number of solid performances by several Spartan newcomers highlighted game one of the UNCG baseball team’s Fall World Series which began Thursday at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. After day one, the Grey team leads the Navy squad. A detailed scoring system is being used to determine the series winner.
Junior infielder Aaron Wright (Asheville, N.C./Chattanooga State) clubbed a pair of home runs and tallied three RBI while sophomore catcher Jake Hall (Asheboro, N.C./Southwestern Randolph) junior outfielder L.J. Kalawaia (Wailuku, Hawai’i/Ohlone College) combined to go 4-for-7 to lead the Grey team’s offensive efforts. On the bump, freshman RHP Adam Swim (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) threw two and two-thirds innings – allowing just one hit.
As for the Navy side, junior outfielder Nick Chapman (Morganton, N.C./Patton) delivered a home run while classmate and outfielder Eric Kalbfleisch (Pilot Mountain, N.C./North Stokes) recorded two hits in three at bats. The team received some solid innings from its pitching staff as junior LHP Tyler Long (Halifax, Va./Louisburg College) tallied three strikeouts in two innings pitched and junior RHP Max Povse (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) fanned five batters in three and two thirds innings.
Game two of the Fall World Series is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
