GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG softball team split a pair of games at the Ray Chandler Memorial Tournament last weekend against East Carolina and Campbell at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
The Spartans host Pitt Community college Friday, Oct. 4 for a doubleheader at the UNCG Softball Stadium starting at 4 p.m.
The Blue and Gold are 3-1 during the fall season after claiming victories against Charlotte twice and recently against ECU in a 10-2 run-rule win. UNCG had 10 hits in the contest, including a grand slam from junior Dominique Madruga (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic).
The Spartans received a 3-for-4 effort from senior Aisha Figueroa (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) and had two RBI. Junior Tatiana Alcala (Oxnard, Calif./Pacifica) lead the team with two stolen bases. Senior Raeanne Hanks (Rainier, Ore./Rainier Senior) earned the win throwing four innings, allowing two runs with two strikeouts. Sophomore Nicole Thomas (Irvine, Ca./Northwood) threw two scoreless innings in relief.
In game two, UNCG dropped a 6-1 game to Campbell playing just six innings due to a two-hour time limit. Sophomore Danielle Vega (Rialto, Calif./Aquinas) had the only RBI of the contest. Newcomer Lacey Leary (Norwood, N.C./South Stanly/Spartanburg Methodist) went four innings, allowing three runs (zero earned runs) on just two hits.
UNCG finishes the fall season with a trip to Rock Hill, S.C. to face Pfeiffer and Winthrop Saturday, Oct. 5 starting at 1 p.m.
