GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s soccer team begins a two-game road swing Tuesday night as the Spartans face Georgia State for a non-conference contest in Atlanta, Ga. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at the Georgia State Soccer Complex with live stats available at www.uncgspartans.com.
UNCG enters the game with a 5-4-0 record after picking up a 1-0 victory against Longwood Saturday night at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. The Spartans received an early goal from junior
David Reittinger (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest) who scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Stephen Moffitt (Burlington, N.C./Williams) posted his fifth shutout of the season with five saves, including one on a Longwood penalty kick in the first half.
All five of the Spartans victories this season have come by shutout as they are out-scoring opponents 8-0 in victories while being out-scored 10-2 in their losses. Four different Spartans have scored goals this season with Reittinger leading the way with four goals and an assist. Seniors Brian Graham (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Mahdi Ali (Helsinki, Finland/Vuosaaren Lukio) each have tallied two goals along with redshirt sophomore Dustin Gamradt (Kiel, Germany/Hebbleschule).
Georgia State has a 2-5-1 record but is 2-0-1 in its last three games. The Panthers tied an undefeated Washington team, 1-1, back on Sept. 22 on the road. Jamal Keene leads the team with three goals, while William Mellors-Blair has added a goal and an assist. CJ Cochran has started all eight games in goal posting a 1.70 goals against average on 28 saves.
Tuesday's game marks the fifth meeting between UNCG and Georgia State. The Spartans lead the all-time series by a 4-0-1 margin. It is the first meeting since 2001 when UNCG defeated Georgia State 3-0 at home.
