GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG freshman RHP Ryan Clark (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) has been named the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) Pitcher of the Week for games June 2-9, according to an announcement Monday by the organization.
In his first two starts of the summer league season, Clark was dominant for the defending champion Syracuse Jr. Chiefs. He earned a victory in the squad's opener, throwing six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts as the Chiefs downed the Sherril Silversmiths by a 7-0 count. He followed up that performance with another six shutout frames and fanned eight more batters against the Syracuse Salt Cats Sunday in a no decision.
The Southern Conference All-Freshman Team selection currently paces the NYCBL in innings pitched (13.0), strikeouts (16) and games started (two).
Developing into one of UNCG's top options out of the bullpen during the 2013 season, Clark produced a stellar rookie year in which he was 5-1 overall with a 2.05 earned run average and two saves in 26 appearances. He struck out 25 batters in 30.1 innings pitched and walked just five. Clark allowed just one earned run in his last nine outings and gave up just four extra-base hits the entire campaign.
