World Cup of Softball VIII Schedule
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - UNCG junior Aisha Figueroa (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) will be playing for the Puerto Rico full national team at the 2013 Softball World Cup in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Hall of Fame Stadium. Figueroa and the Puerto Rico team will play four games in the tournament running July 11-14.
Figueroa is making her third stint with the national team program as she participated in the 2012 Softball World Cup and the 2011 Pan American Games for Puerto Rico in Guadalajara, Mexico. She started all seven games, while playing second base and batted second in the order. She posted a team-best .409 batting average (9-of-22) mark, the fourth-best average at the tournament. Last season, Figueroa and Puerto Rico finished fifth among six teams in their first appearance at the Softball World Cup.
Figueroa recently was named first team All-State by NCCSIA after a solid junior season this past spring. Figueroa was named second team All-Southern Conference at Utility after starting all 57 games and hit .297 with 42 runs scored (sixth-best in school-history), 55 hits, two doubles and 11 RBI. She had 13 multi-hit games and two multi-RBI contests. Figueroa set a new career-high with 22 stolen bases and had a 16-game hitting streak from Mar. 30 through April 27. She also had a hit or a walk in 19-straight games ending on May 4 against the College of Charleston. Figueroa picked up three stolen bases in the SoCon Tournament with four hits.
Figueroa is expected to take part in all the Puerto Rico softball events this summer including the Pan American women's softball Championship in August. Figueroa is also climbing up the charts for career stolen bases at UNCG with 57 in three seasons. She is 33 steals away from tying for second best all-time with Mary Greenway (2007-08).
