MESA, ARIZ. – UNC Greensboro women’s golf (316) completed the first round of the Clover Cup on Friday with the Spartans currently tied for 11th place alongside FlU. The Spartans trail Nebraska by one stroke for 10th place.

The second round will begin tomorrow and live stats will be available via BirdieFire.com.

“It was a rough day out there for us,” admitted Head Coach Janell Howland. “They got some work in after the round and hopefully we will bounce back tomorrow. These girls have the talent and it’s just about letting it show in tournaments. I believe we can have a great finish the next two days.”

UNCG was led in the first round by senior Natalia Asensio (75), as she carded a three-over 75. Asensio is currently tied for 15th place, as her round was highlighted by four birdies, two on both the front- and back-nine.

“The conditions out there today were pretty tough with the wind, but I am happy with how I fought the round,” Asensio said. “We are all excited to come back tomorrow and climb up the leaderboard.”

Fellow senior Lexi Kershaw (79), meanwhile, is currently tied for 47th place as she recorded a seven-over 79 during the first 18 holes. Kershaw’s lone birdie on the day came on the second hole.

Sophomores Keri Kenkel (81) and Tara Bettle (81) are two of five golfers that are currently tied for 61st place. Kenkel recorded a birdie on Hole 3.

Sophomore Sara Rydman (82) completed the first round at 10-over 82 and is in a six-way tie for 66th place as play currently stands. She birdied Hole 10.

Competing in individual play this weekend, freshman Hailey Joy (89) wrapped up the first round at 17-over.
