GREENSBORO, Ga. – UNC Greensboro men’s golf has come out of the gates strong at the Linger Longer Invitational, which is taking place this weekend at The Landing at Reynolds Lake Oconee, as the Spartans are currently tied for second place with No. 21 Liberty through 18 holes.
UNCG (282) is currently eight-under and just four strokes behind the leader, No. 25 Louisville. As play currently stands, UNCG is ahead of three additional top 25 teams in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.
The second round will begin tomorrow morning and live stats will be available via Golfstat.com.
The Spartans completed Friday’s round with two golfers in the top 10, led by senior Bryce Hendrix (68) who is currently tied for fourth place. Hendrix carded a four-under 68. The senior tallied four birdies on the front-nine followed by a birdie on Hole 13 and then a bogey on Hole 14.
Sophomore Nick Lyerly (69), meanwhile, is tied for sixth place after registering a three-under 69 during the first 18 holes.
Senior Jonathan Brightwell (71) also finished the first round under-par, as he collected four birdies against only two bogies.
Junior Grant Powell (74) and sophomore Zack Swanson (74) each completed the first round at two-over 74 and are tied for 41st place. Powell holed three birdies on the front-nine against three bogeys and one double-bogey while Swanson tallied four birdies along with four bogeys and one double-bogey.
In individual play, junior Ben Buben (77) is tied for 66th place after finishing the first round at five-over.
