PUERTO RICO – UNC Greensboro men’s golf on Tuesday completed a top 10 finish in the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club, as the Spartans finished 14-over with a team score of 878 (295-292-291). The Spartans finished one stroke ahead of No. 5 Alabama, the highest-ranked team UNCG has ever beaten in a tournament. UNCG previously beat No. 7 Illinois in 2014.
Sophomore Nick Lyerly (71-74-73) finished tied for 29th place, as he ended the third round at one-over 73. Lyerly recorded three birdies against two bogeys and one double-bogey.
Junior Jonathan Brightwell (73-73-72) had his best round of the tournament on Tuesday finishing even-par. Brightwell recorded two birdies on the back-nine.
Senior Bryce Hendrix (75-70-74), meanwhile, finished tied for 36th place, as he was two-over in the third round.
Junior Grant Powell (76-75-73) also had his best round of the tournament in the third round, carding a one-over 73. He finished with a team-best four birdies on Tuesday.
Sophomore Zack Swanson (80-84-75) completed the third round at three-over 75, highlighted by an eagle on Hole 15.
Senior Mark Johnston (80-79-75) finished tied for ninth amongst the individuals, who were participating on the Ocean Course at Rio Mar Country Club.
