TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – UNC Greensboro softball (2-3) wrapped up the JoAnne Graf Classic with an 8-4 win over Iowa State (1-4) Sunday at JoAnne Graf Field. The Spartans scored four unanswered runs in the sixth inning for the victory.
The top of the sixth inning started with a one-single to right field by Gabi Howard. The bases were loaded with a single by Katie Stettler and hit by pitch by Monica Pepe. Makenna Matthijs knocked in the first run with a single through the left side. After a bases-loaded walk by Jasmine Palmer, Marisa Sholtes brought home the last two runs on a double to left center.
Iowa State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a leadoff homer, but UNCG took the lead in the third inning. Howard led off with a walk and went to second on a sac bunt by Stettler. Both scored on a Palmer double down the left field line.
UNCG scored its two other runs in the next inning. Jordan Gontram hit a one-out single and went to third base on a double down the left field line by Melanie Darges. Howard brought home Gontram with a single to centerfield, and Stettler knocked in Darges on a single through the left side.
The Cyclones tied the game up with three runs in the fifth inning.
UNCG returns to action next weekend at the Gamecock Invitational, starting with St. John’s Friday at 12:30 p.m. followed by the host school South Carolina.

- Howard and Stettler were the only Spartans with more than one hit as both went 2-3.
- Palmer had a game-high three RBIs.
- Stephanie Bryden (2-2) threw her second complete game of the weekend, allowing one earned run, four hits and no walks with six strikeouts.
