GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro track’s 2019 indoor and outdoor track schedule has been finalized, head coach Chad Pearson announced Thursday.

“We're very excited to begin the transition from cross country to indoor and outdoor track,” said Pearson. “We hope and feel that the fitness we've achieved with cross country will spill over into both indoor and outdoor track seasons.”

The Familiar Confines of JDL: JDL College Kickoff Classic (Dec. 1), Wake Forest Invitational (Jan. 19-20), JDL College Dual Meet Madness (Jan. 27), Camel City Invitational (Feb. 1-2), JDL DMR Invitational (Feb. 15-16)

The Spartans will make the short trip to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem for five of their eight indoor meets. The season starts this Saturday with the JDL College Kickoff Classic. UNCG will run at the facility for three-straight weekends with the Wake Forest Invitational, JDL College Dual Meet Madness and Camel City Invitational. The last meet in Winston-Salem is the JDL DMR Invitational.

“We'll kick off our indoor season at the JDL College Kickoff Classic,” said Pearson. “This will give some of our athletes, notably our freshmen, a chance to wear the UNCG uniform for the first time in their young Spartan careers, which is always special. We'll return to JDL Fast Track several times during the indoor season as we love to compete at a venue that has always been a great place to race and is near home.”

Three Trips to Virginia: Virginia Tech Invitational (Jan. 11-12), Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational (Feb. 8-9) and Southern Conference Championships (Feb. 23-24)

After a month-plus long break, UNCG resumes its season with the Virginia Tech Invitational for the first meet of the 2019 year. The Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. The Indoor SoCon Championships is hosted by VMI in Lexington, Va.

“We're excited about traveling to the Virginia Tech Invitational in early January as that facility just opened back up to competition,” said Pearson. “The early season meets in January and early February will allow us a chance to tweak our race skills as we head towards the indoor postseason in late February.”

Beginning the Outdoor Season at the Beach: Coastal Carolina Invitational (March 8-9)

The Spartans start the outdoor portion of the season in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Staying in State: 49er Classic (March 14-16), HPU VertKlasse Meeting (March 22-23)

UNCG will stay in-state the next two times in March. The Spartans will go to Charlotte for the 49er Classic and stay in the Triad for the HPU VertKlasse Meeting.

“We're excited to again head towards the coast of the Carolinas as we head to the Coastal Carolina Invitational to begin our outdoor season,” said Pearson. “It really provides a nice transition heading into the outdoor season following a couple months of indoor track. The rest of March will see us headed to some quality meets that will allow us to see some great competition which is great for our young team.”

Two Meets on the Same Weekend: Raleigh Relays and Fred Hardy Invite (March 29-30), Virginia Challenge and Duke Invitational (April 19-20)

UNCG ends the month of March with the Raleigh Relays and Fred Hardy Invite, held in Richmond, Va. After almost a three-week break, the Spartans will compete in both the Virginia Challenge and Duke Invitational.

“As we head in to April, we continue with some opportunities at competing with some of the best on the east coast with meets scheduled in both Charlottesville, Va. and Durham, N.C.,” said Pearson. “We're hoping to use these regular season meets to propel us to some great performances at the conference championships and hopefully beyond in the postseason.”

Championship Time: SoCon Outdoor Championships (April 27-28)

The SoCon Outdoor Track Championship will be hosted by Samford in Birmingham, Ala.
