UNCG Indoor/Outdoor Track Schedule Announced; Spartans Begin Competition with Home Meet Saturday
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Track season hits the ground running when the UNCG Spartans Sunday, December 4, when the Blue & Gold opens its indoor track season at JDL FastTrack in Winston-Salem, N.C. Head coach Chad Pearson announced the indoor and outdoor track schedules Friday morning.
“Our 2016-17 indoor and outdoor schedules will provide our student-athletes with the best opportunities for success as we head in to the indoor and outdoor postseasons,” said Pearson. “Our schedules will allow us great opportunities to focus on training at times while racing when we are at our best fitness levels throughout the season. Racing at a variety of venues will give our student-athletes critical race experience that will benefit us as the seasons progress.”
UNCG will open with its first of two home meets this season, the Early Bird Duals, Saturday, December 4, at 12 p.m. UNCG will race at back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference meets for the Virginia Tech Invitational and Wake Forest Invitational January 13-14 and 21, respectively.
The Spartans cap off January with their second home meet, the UNCG Dual Meet Madness, in Winston-Salem, N.C. January 29 at 11 a.m.
In February the Blue & Gold competes in back-to-back meets at JDL FastTrack for the Camel City Invitational and JDL College Challenge March 3-4 and 9.
A trip to Ames, Iowa, is schedule for February 10-11, for the Iowa State Classic before the Blue & Gold return home for the UCS Invitational February 28.
The Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships is slated for February 25-26 in Johnson City, Tenn., and the NCAA Indoor Track Championships will be held March 10-11 in College Station, Texas, at Texas A&M University.
Outdoor track season begins March 10-11 with the Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. The Blue & Gold will compete in three-straight meets based in North Carolina to begin the outdoor season with the 49er Classic and Raleigh Relays following UNCW’s meet to kick things off.
Stanford Invitation in Palo Alto, Ca., and High Point’s Vertklasse Meeting both make the 2017 outdoor schedule for the Blue & Gold again this season.
UNCG heads to Wofford’s Terrier Relays April 1 before competing at the Virginia Challenge and Duke Invitational April 21-22. The Spartans will make their third trip to Palo Alto for the Payton Jordan Invitational April 30 to close out the month of April.
In May, UNCG has one last tune-up at the Wolfpack Last Chance Meet May 5 before heading south to the SoCon Championships May 11-12, in Birmingham, Ala. The NCAA East Preliminary is set for May 25-27 in Lexington, Ky., and the NCAA National Championships will once again return to Eugene, Ore., June 7-10.
