Penny Boswell Named Assistant Cross Country and Track Coach
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Head men’s and women’s cross country and track coach Chad Pearson announced that Penny Boswell, a former standout of the University of South Carolina, has been named assistant coach at UNCG. Boswell was a member of the Gamecocks squad from 2010-14 and spent the past two seasons as the Graduate Assistant coach at her Alma Mater.
“We couldn’t be happier to have Penny join our coaching staff at UNCG,” said Pearson. “She comes to UNCG highly recommended…I know she will begin working within our program and with our student-athletes and provide an instant impact. Her background as a distance runner and experience both as a Division I student-athlete and coach will allow her to relate with our team at UNCG. With our coaching staff now complete, I am even more excited to begin the season of competition. It will be a lot of fun.”
During her time as a Gamecock student-athlete, Boswell represented USC on a national level competing at NCAA Southeast Regionals, the Armory Track Invitational and at the SEC Championships. She posted the 7th fastest 10,000-meter time in program history (35:53.8) and was a two-year captain. She was presented the Team Leadership Award in 2012 and 2013 and was a three-year member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
“I am incredibly grateful to Coach Pearson for the opportunity to be a part of his staff here at UNCG,” said Boswell. “The Spartan cross country and track programs have had a strong history of success within the Southern Conference as well as at the regional and national levels. I am excited to work with this great group of student-athletes and help contribute to the future of the program.”
As the Graduate Assistant Coach and Track and Field/Director of Operations Intern at South Carolina, Boswell gained a plethora of coaching and administrative experience. She assisted in writing and coordinating distance practices, wrote the 2017 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Manual, coordinated official and unofficial recruiting visits and assisted the Director of Operations with coordinating team travel.
Boswell received a B.S. in Exercise Science with an emphasis on Heath Fitness in 2014 and recently completed her Masters Degree in Sports and Entertainment Management in May. Both of which were earned at South Carolina.
