Cross Country Heads To Notre Dame For Joe Piane Invitational
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action Friday afternoon as the Spartans travel to the University of Notre Dame for the 62nd annual Joe Piane Invitational. Eight men’s runners will take part in the event while 11 different women’s runners will compete in South Bend.
The meet includes 51 total schools, including 42 men’s programs and 47 women’s programs while consisting of five different races. UNCG is slate to run the women’s Gold race at 3:15 p.m. on the 5,000-meter course while the men’s program will run in the Gold race 5-mile course at 4 p.m.
The Spartans are coming off the adidas XC Challenge hosted in Cary, N.C. The UNCG women’s program finished ninth in the event while the men’s program placed 11th overall.
Taylor Delaney (Hope Mills, N.C./South View) led the women as the top finisher for the Spartans, finishing the 5,000-meter race in 18:27.2. Freshmen Kassidy Dill (Milford, Maine/Orono) and Lefler McManus were next up, finishing the circuit in 19:38.0 and 19:38.7 for 69th and 70th, respectively.
On the men’s side, William Sandin (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) finished the 6,000-meter course in 20:01.4 for 55th, while Alex Roy (Clayton, N.C./Clayton) took 67th in 20:17.1. Freshman Jonathan Timothy (Greenville, N.C.) placed 76th with a time of 20:35.4, while Trelek Jones (Lynchburg, Va./Wake Forest) and Weston Clayton garnered 93rd and 94th in 21:39.9 and 21:46.7.
