GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG cross country signee and Watauga senior Kathleen Mansure advanced to the Foot Locker National Championships after a top 10 finish in the South Regional of the Foot Locker National Cross Country South Regional over the weekend.
The Boone, N.C. native finished the race in 17:15 for an eighth place finish at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, N.C. The qualifying finish followed up her second place finish at the 4A state championships November 1.
Mansure’s mile pace was 5:33 for the 5,000-meter race Saturday. She becomes only the fourth Watauga High School runner to qualify for nationals and is the first female in school history to do so. Ryen Frazier of Raleigh, N.C. won the girls race with a time of 16:27.
The top 10 finish is another impressive note to add to Mansure’s resume and her excellent 2014 season. Besides being the runner-up at the state championship, she was the 2014 Wendy’s Invitational Champion and won the Girls High School 5,000-meter race at the Furman Classic in Greenville, S.C.
The top 10 runners from the Northeast, South, and West regionals will advance to the championship event. The National Championship will be held on December 13, 2014 at Morley Field at Balboa Park in San Diego, CA. Mansure will race at 9:15 a.m. against the country’s top competition.
