GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG cross country/track assistant coach Jennifer Rock claimed the female championship at Northeastern Pennsylvania’s annual Steamtown Marathon in Scranton, Pa., Oct. 12.  Rock’s victory at the Steamtown is an automatic qualifier for the 2015 Boston Marathon.

Rock, who joined the staff this season, posted a time of 2:39:46 in the 26.2-mile course, the 12th fastest time among all racers, both male and female. In fact, her time of 2:39:46 set the Steamtown Marathon female course record, eclipsing the time of Heidi Peoples in 2010 of 2:39:48.

Rock joined the Spartans after completing her undergraduate career at Wayne State University. She was a two-year letterwinner at Wayne State where she dominated the 10,000 and 5,000-meter races during her career. She became Wayne State’s first-ever women’s track All-America honoree in 2014 when she finished sixth overall in the National Championship.

Rock holds both the 10,000-meter and 5,000-meter outdoor school records at Wayne State. She won the GLIAC Outdoor Championship in the 5,000-meter in 2014 and the GLIAC Outdoor Championship in the 10,000-meter distance in 2013. She was a two-time All-GLIAC indoor selection in the 5,000-meter, where she also owns the school record. In cross country, she was named to the All-Region and All-GLIAC Team in 2011.
