GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG cross country and track head coach Chad Pearson announced on Tuesday the 2018 women’s recruiting class of Kathryn Anderson, Chandler McCaslin and Meredith Roberts. The trio from North Carolina will join the Spartans for the 2018-19 academic year.

“We are very pleased with our women’s fall signees and are happy to welcome them to our university and the UNCG Cross Country/Track Program," said Pearson. "Through adding these three young ladies, our team is better and more competitive than it was prior to the signing period and that is always important this time of year.  These three young ladies all loved what we had to offer as both a university and distance running program and I know they will come to UNCG and fit right in with our women.  We hope that this will give us some momentum heading in to the spring signing period, and we are excited to add even more young talent to our women’s program moving forward.”

Anderson is a native of Clemmons, N.C. and attends West Forsyth High School. Under the guidance of coach Nate Newsome she helped the undefeated Titans earn cross country championships in 2017 for the first time in 20 years for City-County, Central Piedmont and Mid-West Regionals. Her team qualified for the NCHSAA 4A Championships all four years she ran and finished third this season. She ran a personal best 19:09.2 in 5k at the Wendy's Invitational on Oct. 7th this year.

Lettering for four years in indoor/outdoor track and field, Anderson also assisted West Forsyth to conference championships the past two years. Named all-conference in cross country the last three seasons, she qualified for states in track and field for the 3,200 meters last season for a seventh-place finish and the 4x800 relay the last three years with two fifth-place finishes the last two seasons. She had a personal record of 11:29.79 in the 3,200 meters last year at the Bojangles Track and Field Classic on April 8th.

Planning to major in nursing, Anderson was selected the Rotary Club Student of the Month this September and is also a member of the National Honors Society.

McCaslin is a native of Mooresville, N.C. and attends North Lincoln High School. Coached by Jerry Castro she helped the Knights to a runner-up finish in the NCHSAA 2A Cross Country Championships this season. A four-year letterwinner in cross country and track and field, she has been named All-South Fork Conference in cross country each year. She was selected to all-region and all-state the last two seasons. She placed third in this year’s state championship on Nov. 4th with a personal best of 18:43.7.

On the track McClasin garnered team MVP in the winter season her freshman year, MVP in outdoor the following season, and then both the following season. She has earned all-conference honors each year so far, placed fourth in the 1,600 meters in the indoor state championships her sophomore season and named all-state and female track athlete of the year last season. Setting a personal record of 5:15.16 in the 1,600 meters last outdoor season for third-place at the Midwest regionals on May 13th, she then placed eighth at the state championship a week later. In the 3,200 meters she set a personal record of 11:10.07 in the Reagan Polar Bear Meet on Nov. 18th this year.

A member of Beta Club and National Honors Society, McClasin plans to major in exercise science.

A native of Winston-Salem, Roberts goes to Mount Tabor High School. She helped coach Mike Riley this season lead the Spartans to a Piedmont Triad Conference runner-up finish, third-place at the 3A Midwest Regional and fourth place in the state championship meet where for the first time all five varsity runners recorded a time under 20 minutes.
