Chattanooga, Tenn. – The UNCG men’s cross country team placed eighth overall at the Southern Conference Championships Saturday morning at Camp Jordan.
Luke Sumerford (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) was the top Spartans finisher placing 40th overall with a time of 25:37.26 on the 8,000-meter course. Dakarai Shipp (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) and Brandon King (Burnsville, N.C./Millbrook) placed 44th and 45th, respectively while William Sandin (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) finished inside the top-50 with a time of 25:56.40.
Bryan Whyms (Charlotte, N.C./Northside Christian Academy) was the fifth Spartan finisher with a 53rd place finish overall.
UNCG earned 220 points and ran a team average of 25:48.00 while edging The Citadel by one point.
Furman earned its fourth consecutive Southern Conference Championship with 22 points while Frank Lara won the individual title for the Paladins.
