SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG placed 46 student-athletes on the 2018 Spring Academic All-Southern Conference Team, according to an announcement by the league office Monday. The Spartans had 12 teams represented, led by nine selections from baseball. Softball accrued the second-most selections with six honorees. Men’s tennis added five selections with women’s golf, women’s indoor and outdoor track each with four selections. Men’s indoor track, men’s basketball and women’s basketball each earned three honorees. Women’s tennis and men’s outdoor track and field added two selections with men’s golf earning one.

To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average at the end of the semester of competition and have completed at least three semesters academically. The student-athlete must have also competed in at least one-half of the team’s competition.

Four Spartans earned a perfect 4.0 GPA on the spring Academic All-SoCon team in softball’s Jordan Gontram and Kayleigh Willis, Lexi Kershaw of women’s golf and Kaitlyn Stone of women’s track.

The Southern Conference set a new record with 572 student-athletes earn Academic All-Conference honors for the spring, eight of the league’s 10 full members had more than 45 selections.
