GREENSBORO, N.C.– UNC Greensboro men’s golf team leads the UNCG Grandover Collegiate after a strong second round score by seven strokes after the second round Saturday.
Nick Lyerly shot a four-under par in the first round and in the second round for a two-round score of eight-under par 136 to lead the tournament by six strokes, while Bryce Hendrix and Jonathan Brightwell are second on team with a one-over par 145 to finish in a tie for 13th.
Hendrix and Brightwell both shot a three-over par 75 in the first round, but both shot a two-under par in the second round, while Grant Powell is a stroke back with a two-round score of two-over par 146 to finish in a tie for 17thafter shooting an even-par 72 in the first round and a two-over par 74 in the second round.
Zack Swanson finished with a five-over 149 after a two-over par 74 in the first round and a three-over par 75 in the second round.
The Spartans had five playing as an individual with Justin Emmons leading the way with a two-round score of 153 to finish in a tie for 47th, followed by Mark Johnson with a two-round score of 153 to finish in a tie for 52nd.
Ben Buben finished with a two-round score of 157 to finish in a tie for 70th, followed by Ben Crow’s two-round score of 162 to finish in a tie for 80thand Michael Wicker’s two-round score of 165 to finish in 87thplace.
The Spartans finished the first round a stroke behind Penn State after a one-over par 289, but shot a six-under par 282 in the second round for the seven stroke lead over PSU.
The final round is Sunday at the East-Grandover Resort with a shotgun tee time of 8:30 a.m.
