Big Home Weekend On Deck For UNCG Athletics
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG athletic department kicks off the 2017-18 home athletic season in a big way this weekend with three marquee home events as volleyball, women’s soccer and men’s soccer all host key contests in a 72-hour span on campus. The weekend will be a spectacular opening three-day period with lot of activities surrounding each contest and admission is FREE to all events.
The weekend begins Saturday night in Fleming Gymnasium as the UNCG volleyball team closes out the Spartan-Demon Deacon Classic against Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Triad foe Wake Forest. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3. The Spartans are looking to break the single-game attendance record of 1,131 set back in 2010 and is encouraging all fans to come out and support the team. Additionally, the first 250 UNCG students will receive a FREE Bojangles tailgate in Fleming Gym.
The action continues Sunday evening as the UNCG women’s soccer team hosts its second-straight home game, welcoming in another ACC foe in Clemson. Game time is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3. The game will mark the return of UNCG men’s soccer alum and former women’s soccer head coach Eddie Radwanski to the UNCG Soccer Stadium. The Spartans are celebrating National #JustBecause Day at the game and the first 100 UNCG students will receive mystery giveaways.
The weekend caps off Monday night when the UNCG men’s soccer team opens its home schedule hosting Triad rival High Point. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start at the UNCG Soccer Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN3. Monday will mark the annual Close the Caf Night on campus as the UNCG cafeteria will be closed and moved down to the UNCG Soccer Stadium. The tailgate will open at 5 p.m. and all students with a meal plan can swipe their cards and eat in the all-you-can-eat buffet.
Additionally, all fans can partake in the pre-game buffet for a cost of $9 for adults and $5 for children (Ages 4-8). Cash and credit cards accepted (no checks). The meal includes marinated grilled chicken breast, pulled Carolina pork BBQ, green bean and tomato salad, roasted vegetable medley, macaroni salad, vegetarian baked pasta (marinara based), homemade garlic bread and sliced watermelon.
