GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro women’s basketball (9-14, 3-5 Southern Conference) hosts Furman (13-10, 5-3) Saturday at 4 p.m. in its annual Alumni Game.

Five Facts to Know

-The Spartans lead the SoCon in scoring defense (60.4 points per game), three-point field goal defense (.266), rebounding margin (+3.4) and defensive rebounding percentage (.707).

- Nadine Soliman ranks first in the conference at 19.3 points per game and defensive rebounds per game (6.1) and is second in overall rebounding (7.7 per game) and made three’s per game (2.4).

-Soliman has recorded 1,431 points in her career and needs just 34 more points to move into third place ahead of Melinda Goodson (1996-2000).

- The Spartans are 8-2 this season at Fleming Gymnasium and have won three of four games against SoCon opponents. They’re outscoring opponents by an average of 21 points (69.8-48.8) with a rebounding margin of +6.8.

- UNCG has recorded 16 double-doubles by four different Spartans, led by Te'ja Twitty and Soliman with six double-doubles each. Soliman had a four-game double-double streak snapped last Saturday at Chattanooga.

The Spartans in 2018-19

After losing two road conference games last week, UNCG defeated Wofford 77-61 on Wednesday at home to tie the Terriers for fifth-place in the conference standings. The Spartans outscored the Terriers 25-12 in the final 10 minutes to cruise to the victory. One of four double-digit scoring starters, Aja Boyd led the way with season-highs of 21 points and three blocks along with eight rebounds.

The trio of Soliman, Twitty and Boyd have ranked among the top scorers and rebounders in the SoCon. Besides leading the league in scoring and placing second in rebounding, Soliman is also fourth in free throw percentage (.808) and tied for sixth in steals (1.7 per game).

Twitty has done more damage on the offensive glass, ranking second (3.5 per game) in the category. She’s third in overall rebounding (7.6 rpg) and field goal percentage (.525), eighth in scoring (12.7 ppg) and 10th in free throw percentage (.721). Boyd is right behind Twitty for third in offensive rebounding (3.0) and places fifth in rebounding (6.9 rpg), ninth in blocks (0.9 per game) and 15th in scoring (9.9 ppg).

Series History

The series is all knotted up at 24-24. Furman took the first meeting this season 64-61 at its arena. Both teams split the series last season with each school winning on its home court in competitive games as well.  UNCG won the first matchup with a 76-74 win in double overtime, while Furman won 55-54.

UNCG goes on its longest road trip of SoCon play next week to face Mercer Thursday and Samford Saturday.
