UNCGSpartans.com 12-20-2017

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After coming up short yesterday, UNCG women’s basketball has a quick turnaround as it heads to Presbyterian for its third education day game this season. The Spartans will take on the Presbyterian Blue Hose at noon tomorrow in the Ross E. Templeton Center. Presbyterian enters at 2-7 this season, most recently defeating North Carolina Central Sunday afternoon.

There will be live stats and a video stream available for tomorrow’s contest via the UNCG women’s basketball schedule page. The stream will be live on the Big South Network.

UNCG and Presbyterian have met just one other time in program history. The Blue Hose came in to Fleming Gym last season and defeated the Spartans 69-62 on UNCG’s Education Day.

A pair of players average double figures to lead UNCG’s offense. Nadine Soliman (Cairo, Egypt/Mokattam Language School) leads the team with 14.2 points per game. After posting a career-high 20 points yesterday, Alexus Willey (Waldorf, Md./Riverdale Baptist) raised her points per game average to 11.5.

Ije Ajemba (Lanham, Md./Old Dominion) leads the Spartans and the SoCon on the boards, hauling down 131 on the season. She has been the team leader in rebounds in 11 of 12 games this season and recorded four double-doubles and adds 9.4 points per game. Alexis Pitchford (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) worked her way back into the starting lineup and dished out six assists yesterday. Brandi Fier (South Beloit, Ill./Illinois Central) adds a team-high 44 assists on the season.

Presbyterian carries a 2-7 record into tomorrow’s game, defeating USC Upstate and North Carolina Central. Last time out, the Blue Hose defeated NC Central at home, 69-60. Thursday’s contest is just Presbyterian’s third home game this season.

The Blue Hose score an average of 54.8 points per game, led by Cortney Storey’s 16.4 points per game average. Storey has been Presbyterian’s leading scorer in five of the nine games this season. Janie Miles has started all nine games and scores 9.1 points per game. She leads the team with 19 made three-pointers this season.

Rebounding has been an issue for the Blue Hose as they are out rebounded by an average of 12.2 rebounds per game. Miles leads the team with 3.8 rebounds per game and Storey hauls down 3.1 per contest. Storey leads the team with 47 assists and Miles has dished out 22 on the season.

The Blue Hose played a tough nonconference schedule and dropped games to two ranked opponents. Presbyterian fell at No. 7/8 UCLA early in the season and at No. 16/17 Duke. Presbyterian had lost five-straight games before defeating NC Central Sunday.
