SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Spartan senior Ije Ajemba (Lanham, Md./Old Dominion) earned the Southern Conference’s Player of the Week honor for her efforts last week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. Ajemba averaged 13.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in two games. This is the first SoCon Player of the Week honor for Ajemba and the first for the Spartans this season.
Ajemba started the week off with her third double-double of the season, grabbing 14 rebounds and scoring 13 points against the No. 14 Duke Blue Devils last Thursday. Her rebounding total led all competitors and she sank five-of-10 from the field. She blocked one shot, earned one steal and went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe against Duke.
Last night against Murray State, the senior scored 13 points and hauled down nine rebounds. She went 6-of-11 from the field and picked up a pair of steals in 36 minutes of action. She hauled down eight offensive boards for the Spartans last week and she shot 55-percent from the field.
Ajemba and the Spartans return to the court this Friday as they head to Norfolk, Virginia for a matchup with the Norfolk State Spartans at 6 p.m.
