GREENSBORO, N.C. – No. 6 seed UNC Greensboro women’s basketball (11-18, 5-9 Southern Conference) faces No. 3 Chattanooga (13-16, 8-6) Thursday at approximately 5:45 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Ingles SoCon Women’s Basketball Championship presented by General Shale.
Five Facts to Know
- Nadine Soliman was named to the All- SoCon First-Team while Te'ja Twitty garnered second-team honors, the league announced Tuesday. Both players earned the honors from the coaches and the SoCon Sports Media Association. Soliman has earned all-SoCon honors each year of her career with selections to the second-team the previous two seasons in addition to being named the freshman of the year. This is the second season accolade for Twitty as she was picked to the all-freshmen team in 2016-17.
- The Spartans lead the SoCon in scoring defense (60.5 points per game), rebounding margin (+3.4) and defensive rebounding percentage (.712).
- Soliman ranks in the conference second in scoring (19.1 points per game), tied for second in made three’s per game (2.3) and third in rebounding (7.4 rebounds per game) and defensive rebounds per game (5.9).
-Soliman has recorded 1,540 points in her career and needs 46 more points to move into second place ahead of Angie Polk (1985-89).
- UNCG has recorded 19 double-doubles by four different Spartans, led by Twitty (eight) and Soliman (seven). Twitty has recorded 19 double-doubles in her career for third-most in school history while Soliman is tied for eighth with eight.

UNCG won two of its last three games to end the regular season, defeating Western Carolina 66-42 on the road two weekends ago and Chattanooga 53-49 last Thursday at home. In both games the Spartans didn’t trail a single second. UNCG finished the season tied for sixth place in the SoCon standings with Samford and got the sixth seed due to its tiebreaking win over the Mocs.
The trio of Soliman, Twitty and Aja Boyd have ranked among the top scorers and rebounders in the SoCon. Besides her strong scoring and rebounding, Soliman is third in free throw percentage (.815) and eighth in three-point field goal percentage (.338) and steals (1.5 per game).
Twitty has done more damage on the offensive glass, ranking second (3.6 per game) in the category. She’s second in overall rebounding (8.0 rpg), third in field goal percentage (.513), fifth in defensive rebounds (4.3 per game), seventh in scoring (12.8 ppg) and 10th in free throw percentage (.688). Boyd is right behind Twitty for third in offensive rebounding (2.9) and places fifth in rebounding (6.6 rpg) and steals (1.7 per game), eighth in blocks (0.9 per game), 11th in field goal percentage (.440) and 15th in scoring (9.7 ppg).
Chattanooga leads the series 44-9. The two teams split the season series as the Mocs won at home 64-54 on Feb. 1. No. 6 seed UNCG won 70-66 in double-overtime in last year’s quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament, but Chattanooga has won seven of the nine overall meetings in the tournament.
