GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro women’s basketball (8-14, 2-5 Southern Conference) hosts Wofford (11-11, 3-4) Wednesday at 7 p.m. in its annual Pink Game to raise support for Breast Cancer Awareness.
The first 500 fans will get a free pink shirt. All fans are encouraged to wear pink.
Five Facts to Know
-The Spartans lead the SoCon in scoring defense (60.4 points per game), three-point field goal defense (.267), rebounding margin (+3.6) and defensive rebounding percentage (.710).
- Nadine Soliman ranks first in the conference at 19.3 points per game and defensive rebounds per game (6.1) and is second in overall rebounding (7.8 per game).
-The Spartans have recorded 16 double-doubles by four different Spartans led by Te'ja Twitty and Soliman with six double-doubles each. Soliman had a four-game double-double streak snapped in the previous game at Chattanooga.
-Soliman has recorded 1,411 points in her career and needs just seven more points to move into fourth place ahead Brianne Dodgen (1998-2002).
-Twitty has recorded 14 double-doubles in her career for fifth most in school history.
The Spartans in 2018-19
UNCG lost both road games last week to ETSU (85-76) on Thursday and Chattanooga (64-54) on Saturday. In both games the Spartans trailed by one possession late in the fourth quarter, but their opponents used runs to claim the victories. UNCG sits in a tie for sixth-place in the SoCon Standings and would move into a tie for fifth-place with Wofford with a win.
The trio of Soliman, Twitty and Aja Boyd have ranked among the top scorers and rebounders in the SoCon. Besides leading the league in scoring and placing second in rebounding, Soliman is also third in free throw percentage (.804) and three’s made per game (2.4) and fifth in steals (1.8 per game).
Twitty has done more damage on the offensive glass, ranking second (3.6 per game) in the category. She’s third in overall rebounding (7.6 rpg) and field goal percentage (.540) and eighth in scoring (12.7 ppg). Boyd is right behind Twitty for third in offensive rebounding (3.0) and places fifth in rebounding (6.9 rpg) and 16th in scoring (9.4 ppg).
UNCG leads the series 35-13. Wofford took the first meeting this season 93-66 on Jan. 12 in Spartanburg. Last year the Spartans won both of the meetings.
UNCG finishes its two-game homestand with Furman Saturday at 4 p.m. on Alumni Day.
