GREENSBORO, N.C.- UNC Greensboro’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will kick off their 2018-19 seasons on Thursday, Oct. 18 during Spartan Madness presented by Spring Place Student Apartments.

Spartan Madness is a student-only event with doors opening at 7 p.m. in Fleming Gymnasium. Students must have valid UNCG identification to attend.

In addition to seeing this year’s teams participate in inter-squad scrimmages and a joint three-point competition along with the men’s team’s dunk contest, students will have the opportunity to win one of two $250 VISA gift cards that will be given away and free groceries for one year.

The first 1,000 students to enter Spartan Madness will receive a free t-shirt. Key Glock will also have a special performance.

The Spartans are returning 10 letterwinners from last season including the team’s leading score in Nadine Soliman, who averaged 13.5 points per contest. Soliman is joined by Alexus Willey, Te'ja Twitty and Alexis Pitchford as returners who started at least 14 games last season.

The returners this year will be joined by three transfers (Rhianna Council, Tori Powell and Kianna Funderburk) along with one freshman in Areon Laurent.

A Glance At The Men’s Squad
The Spartans are coming off a program-record 27 victories last season, highlighted by winning the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles before facing Gonzaga in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. It was UNCG’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 17 years.

UNCG returns seniors Francis Alonso, a first-team All-SoCon selection, and Demetrius Troy, a first-team All-SoCon selection, along with reigning SoCon Defensive Player of the Year James Dickey among others.

Four freshmen (Mohammad Abdulsalam, Angelo Allegri, Khyre Thompson and Ryan Tankelewicz) and one transfer (Michael Hueitt Jr.) are new to the program this year.
