GREENSBORO, N.C.– UNC Greensboro’s women’s basketball team has started the 2018-19 season with its first practice of the season in Fleming Gymnasium.

Head coach Trina Patterson enters her third year at the helm at UNCG and her 18thyear as a head coach.  Assisting her is Cait Wetmore, who enters her fifth season at UNCG, and two first-year coaches at UNCG in Ido Singer and Cetera DeGraffenreid.

The Spartans return 10 letterwinners from last year’s team, including the team’s leading scorer of Nadine Soliman, with 13.5 points per game.

UNCG welcomes four newcomers, including three transfers.  Junior guard Rhianna Council transferred from St. Bonaventure, sophomore guard Tori Powell transferred from LIU Brooklyn and sophomore guard Kianna Funderburk transferred from Vermont.

The lone freshman on the team this season is Areon Laurent, who played at Jacksonville High School in North Carolina.

UNCG is looking to replace two letterwinners from a year ago, including Ije Ajembra, who led the team with 12.5 rebounds per game and was second in scoring with 12.0 points per game.

The Spartans start the season on the road with a trip to Atlanta, Ga., to face Georgia State University Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. and opens at Fleming Gymnasium Sunday, Nov. 11 against Pfeiffer University at 2 p.m.
