Women's Basketball Heads to Coastal Carolina for the First Road Trip of 2017-18

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After winning its first two contests of the season, UNCG women’s basketball hits the road for the first time this season as it heads to Conway, S.C. for a matchup with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. UNCG opened the season with victories at home against Southern Wesleyan and Greensboro College. Tip off at the HTC Center is set for 6 p.m.

Tomorrow night’s game will feature live stats and a video stream. The broadcast will be on Chant Vision and fans will need to subscribe to view. Links for these stats are on the UNCG women’s basketball schedule page.

UNCG owns a 12-6 all-time record against the Chanticleers. The last matchup saw Coastal Carolina visit Greensboro and the Spartans earned a 64-54 win in Fleming Gym. Coastal Carolina won the previous matchup in Conway, a 68-54 contest during the 2005-06 season.

Nadine Soliman (Cairo, Egypt/Mokattam Language School) leads UNCG with a 19.5 points per game average in 49 minutes of play. Freshman Amesha Miller (Suffolk, Va./King’s Fork) adds 14 points per game off the bench.

Ije Ajemba (Lanham, Md./Old Dominion) and Te’ja Twitty (Rutherfordton, N.C./Rutherfordton-Spindale Central) lead the Spartans on the boards. Ajemba leads the team with 28 rebounds, averaging 14.0 per game and has earned one double-double. Twitty has grabbed 23 rebounds and went for a double-double against Greensboro Sunday.

Alexis Pitchford (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) is fourth in the league with 10 assists on the season and adds 5.5 points per game. Brandi Fier (South Beloit, Ill./Illinois Central) adds four assists, going for three against Greensboro.

Coastal Carolina enters the game after defeating Lees-McRae 73-47 in its season opener Friday. Sophomore guard DJ Williams led the Chanticleer’s going for a double-double. Williams scored 22 points, going 7-for-10 from the field, and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. She led the team with 15 rebounds and dished out five assists in the win.

Sophomore Naheria Hamilton also tallied a double-double in the opener. Hamilton scored 13 points, going 4-for-12 from the field and adding five free throws. She brought down 10 boards and blocked four shots in the win.
