ASHEVILLE N.C. – After earning the No. 2 seed in the 2019 Ingles Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Championship presented by General Shale, finishing regular season conference play at 15-3, UNC Greensboro men’s basketball on Saturday will face the winner of No. 7 Samford vs. No. 10 The Citadel at the U.S. Cellular Center.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Five Facts To Know
--A victory in the Spartans’ quarterfinals appearance would tie this year’s team with last year’s for the most victories in a single season at 27.
--UNCG earning a victory on Saturday night would move the Spartans into the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament for a third straight season.
--Senior guard Demetrius Troy (435) needs just three more assists to move past former teammate Diante Baldwin (437) for the third-most career assists in school history. Courtney Eldridge (582) paces the statistical category followed by Scott Hartzell (552).
--Sophomore guard Isaiah Miller needs just six more steals to become the first player in program history to reach the 100-steal mark in a single season. Only one player in Division I (Washington’s Matisse Thybulle) has reached the mark so far this season.
--Depending on the outcome of Friday night’s matchup between Samford and The Citadel, the Spartans could face the latter for a third-straight SoCon Tournament and for the fourth time in six years. Last year, UNCG knocked off The Citadel 72-58 in the quarterfinals. The Spartans last faced Samford in postseason action in the first round of the 2015 SoCon Tournament.
The Spartans This Season
UNCG closed out the regular season with a 74-47 victory over Mercer for the team’s 26th victory, the most regular season wins in program history. Additionally, the victory in Hawkins arena was the team’s 11th road win on the season, tied for the most in school history.
A trio of all-conference selections in senior guard Francis Alonso, junior forward James Dickey and Miller led the Spartans this season. Alonso was named a Coaches’ first team selection for the second straight year along with being on the media first team. Dickey, meanwhile, was a third team media selection.
As for Miller, the Covington, Ga., native was named the SoCon’s Defensive Player of the Year, a Coaches’ first team selection and a media second team pick.
Against Samford, the Spartans hold a 14-10 advantage in the all-time series an have won the last five matchups.
Against The Citadel, the Spartans hold a 28-9 edge in the all-time series and are victors in 11 straight contests.

If the Spartans are able to win their quarterfinals contest, UNCG will play the winner of No. 3 Furman vs. No. 6 Mercer on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
