In three days, UNC Greensboro’s men’s basketball team will begin the 2018-19 season looking to build on last season’s success when the Spartans set program records in total wins (27), home wins (16) and Southern Conference wins (15) en route to regular season and conference tournament titles.

While the Spartans' season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, UNCG is preparing for another exciting season ahead.

Today, we’re looking at the seniors on this year's squad starting with Francis Alonso.

Francis Alonso
Position: Guard
Height: 6-3
Weight: 185
Previous School: Cushing Academy

A preseason All-SoCon selection this year, Alonso is on the cusp of setting the program record for three pointers made in a career. Through three seasons, Alonso has made 297 threes, trailing on Scott Hartzell (309) for the most three pointers made by a Spartan. Additionally, the Malaga, Spain, native is third all-time in program history in three-point percentage (42.1), behind only Keyford Langley (46.7) and Hartzell (43.9).

Last season, Alonso was a named a first-team All-SoCon selection as he averaged a career-high 15.6 points.

He wears No. 10.


Demetrius Troy
Position: Guard
Height: 6-0
Weight: 197
Previous School: Word of God

Through three seasons, Troy ranks eighth all-time in program history in assists (308). After spending his first two seasons with the Spartans as a key reserve, Troy started all but one game during his junior season and was the floor general for a UNCG team that made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 17 years.

In a victory over Samford in January, Troy set the single-game assists record with 11. He was also named a first-team All-SoCon Tournament Team selection along with Alonso.

He wears No. 11.

Lloyd Burgess
Position: Center
Height: 6-11
Weight: 270
Previous School: Christ School 

The only senior big man on the roster, Burgess has appeared in 46 games with one start over the course of his time at UNCG. For his career to date, Burgess has averaged 1.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per contest.

He wears No. 25.
