GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the first time in his collegiate career, UNC Greensboro men’s basketball sophomore guard Kaleb Hunter has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week presented by GEICO, the league has announced.
Through UNCG’s first three games of the season, the Louisburg, N.C., native is averaging a team-high 19.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. In each of the Spartans’ first two games of the season against North Carolina A&T and No. 3 Kansas respectively, Hunter scored 17 points. He followed up those performances by scoring a career-high 24 points against Averett in the opening game of the Spartan Invitational.
Hunter also twice set a new personal best in single game rebounds, collecting seven against North Carolina A&T before tallying 12 against Kansas. With his 17-point, 12-rebound performance against Kansas, Hunter recorded his first career double-double as well.
UNCG will return to action this weekend with three games in four days to conclude the Spartan Invitational. On Friday and Saturday, UNCG will face Tennessee Tech and Montana State in Fleming Gymnasium before a showdown with former SoCon foe Appalachian State Monday evening in the Greensboro Coliseum.
