GREENSBORO, N.C. – Head coach Link Jarrett has announced the hiring of former Spartan, Blair Betts for the upcoming 2017-18 season. Betts joins the Spartan coaching staff after coaching at Louisburg College, a junior college in Louisburg, N.C. At Louisburg, Betts worked with the outfielders and assisted the pitchers. With the Spartans, Betts will work with the outfielders, as well as working as the team’s travel coordinator. He will also coordinate all UNCG baseball camps and clinics.

Betts coached for two seasons with the Louisburg College Hurricanes. There he worked with the outfielders and assisted the head coach with the pitching staff. At Louisburg, he helped double the team’s win total in two seasons while developing the program’s overall pitching and throwing programs.

Prior to his stop at Louisburg, Betts worked as an assistant coach with the Holly Springs Salamanders of the Coastal Plain League where he assisted pitchers with developing pitching techniques and prepare players for the challenge of pitching at the collegiate level.

Other coaching experiences include working several baseball camps with Elon University, UNCG and Louisburg College. He also worked with Impact Baseball out of Myrtle Beach, S.C. as well as volunteering with the North Carolina Special Olympics in Wake County.

As a player with UNCG, Betts appeared in 65 games all out of the bullpen, earning a 3-3 recording from 2013-2015 at UNCG. In 68.1 innings of work, Betts struck out 54 hitters, including 30 in his senior season. Betts led the team in appearances in his junior and senior seasons, making 30 appearances as a junior and 24 in his senior season. He recorded career-highs in innings pitched (4.0) and strikeouts (5) in the series finale against Furman in 2015. Betts earned his first win over No. 16 NC State in Raleigh as he threw 0.2 innings, striking out a hitter as a sophomore.

Prior to UNCG, Betts played one season at Indiana University before transferring in the fall of 2011. He graduated from UNCG with a degree in communications following the 2015 season.
