Jarrett Speaks at ABCA Barnstormers Clinic in Durham
DURHAM, N.C. – UNCG head coach Link Jarrett was one of six speakers to speak at the American Baseball Coaches Association’s (ABCA) Barnstormer Clinic held in Durham Saturday afternoon. The Spartan skipper spoke on the subject of infield play to other coaches from around the area.
“The ABCA does so much to promote baseball, and the Barnstormer’s Clinics are a great addition.” Jarrett said, “I am happy I was asked to participate in this event.”
Under Jarrett’s tutelage, the Spartan defense has been on of the best in the Southern Conference. The Spartans led the league in fielding percentage this season after posting a .978 average. That average ranked 25th in the nation as the Spartan defense has continued to improve under Jarrett. UNCG’s fielding percentage has jumped 22 points since Jarrett arrived and has improved every year during his tenure.
Jarrett holds the NCAA record for career assists as he was a four-year letterwinner and two-time All-American shortstop at Florida State University. He helped lead the Seminoles to three College World Series appearances and holds Florida State records for consecutive games played at bats. After being selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 22nd round of the 1994 MLB Draft, he was voted Most Spectacular Defensive Player in the organization.
