GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro volleyball will begin its trip through Southern Conference play this weekend when the Spartans host Western Carolina and ETSU at Fleming Gymnasium.

Five Facts To Know

-- UNCG will be looking to win its third SoCon opener in four years when the Spartans battle the Catamounts 

-- After being on the road for six of their last seven matches, the Spartans will host four-straight SoCon matches to begin conference play 

-- With non-conference competition now complete, UNCG is currently one of six SoCon squads with at least six wins on the season 

-- After being named to the Jefferson Cup All-Tournament Team this past weekend, junior Maria Esch now ranks fourth in the conference in kills per set (3.52)

-- Freshman Gabriela McHugh remains the conference leader in total assists with 511

-- This will be the 52nd all-time meeting between UNCG and Western Carolina

50 Years of UNCG Volleyball

The 2019 season will be a special one for the program, as UNCG volleyball is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The program will be hosting a special celebration during the weekend of Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19. The weekend will include an alumni vs. alumni match, a program history celebration luncheon and recognition of several distinguished alumni from the program’s past.
