GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro volleyball will kick off its 50th season hosting three matches as part of the Spartan-Demon Deacon Classic. UNCG will host North Carolina Central on Friday night with a 6 p.m. start. Saturday will feature two matches, with the Spartans facing Presbyterian (11 a.m.) and Wake Forest (7:30 p.m.).

Live stats for all three matches will be available at UNCGSpartans.com. The match against Presbyterian will be streamed on the SoCon Digital Network while the Wake Forest match will be on ESPN3.

Five Facts To Know

--The 2019 season will be a special one for the program, as UNCG volleyball is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The program will be hosting a special celebration during the weekend of Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19. The weekend will include an alumni vs. alumni match, a program history celebration luncheon and recognition of several distinguished alumni from the program’s past.

--UNCG returns five regular starters returning from last season’s team including the top three point scorers in Holly Behrends, Maria Esch and Emily Keilen.

--The incoming freshman class was also recognized by Prepvolleyball.com as one of the top recruiting classes in the country, being named to the 2019 Top 30 recruiting classes honorable mention list.

--UNCG was picked to finish in sixth place in the Southern Conference preseason poll, which was announced last week. The Spartans received 32 total votes, one behind fifth place ETSU.

--The Spartans have won their last two season-opening matches, defeating UMass Lowell in 2017 and Air Force in 2018.

Series History
The Spartans are 10-1 all-time against North Carolina Central and have won the last nine outings the two schools have shared the court.

Saturday morning’s match against Presbyterian will mark the second-ever meeting between the two schools. UNCG won the first match 3-1 during the 2017 season.

On Saturday night, UNCG and Wake Forest will meet for the 17th time with the Spartans seeking a sixth victory in the series.

Following this weekend’s action, the Spartans will travel to The Lone Star State to participate in the Maverick Classic.
