CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.– UNC Greensboro volleyball team (11-14, 5-8 Southern Conference) bounced back with a 3-1 (26-28, 25-22, 25-20, 25-23) win over Chattanooga (8-17, 4-8 SoCon) after dropping the first set Saturday in Maclellan Gymnasium.

Three Spartans recorded 10-plus kills during the match and three additional Spartans recorded 20-plus digs.  UNCG recorded a season-high 104 digs. 

Senior setter Allison Penner recorded a double-double with 45 assists and 20 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Maria Esch led the team with 16 kills and added four digs.  Penner added three kills and three blocks, while freshman defensive specialist Stephanie Meysembourg led the team with 22 digs. 

Freshman outside hitter Anne Schölzel added 13 kills with a .278 hitting percentage, while junior middle hitter Mikaela Weidmann added 10 kills. Freshman defensive specialist Mandy Garvens added 21 digs, while junior outside hitter Emily Keilen added 16 digs and eight kills. 

Junior defensive specialist Grace Howell added 12 digs and junior middle hitter Lauren Robeck added eight kills, four blocks and five digs.

Chattanooga scored nine of the first 12 points in the first set to take a six-point lead, 9-3, but the Spartans scored nine of the next 12 points to tie the set at 12.  UTC scored four of the next six points to take a two-point lead, 16-14, but UNCG scored nine of the next 12 points to take a four-point lead, 23-19 forcing a UTC timeout.

After the timeout, the Mocs scored the next four points to tie the set at 23 and both teams scored three points to keep the set tied at 26.  UTC scored the final two points to win the set by two points and to take a 1-0 match lead.

The Spartans scored eight of the first 15 points in the second frame to take a point lead, 8-7, but the Mocs scored six of the next eight points to take a three-point lead, 13-10, forcing a UNCG timeout.  After the timeout, the Spartans scored four of the next five points to tie the set at 14 to force a UTC timeout.  After that timeout, the Mocs scored the next three points to take a three-point lead, 17-14, but UNCG scored 11 of the final 16 points to win the set by three points and to tie the match at one.

Chattanooga scored seven of the first 13 points in the third stanza to take a point lead, 7-6, but the Spartans scored five of the next six points to take a three-point lead, 11-8.  The Mocs scored five of the next seven points to tie the set at 13, but UNCG scored the next five points to take a five-point lead, 18-13.  UTC and UNCG both scored seven points as the Spartans won the set by five points and took a 2-1 match lead.

UNCG scored seven of the first 12 points in the final set to take a two-point lead, 7-5, but the Mocs scored 11 of the next 20 points to take a two-point lead, 16-14, forcing a UNCG timeout.  After the timeout, The Spartans scored seven of the next 12 points to tie the set at 21.  After both teams scored two points to keep the set tied at 23, back-to-back points by the Spartans gave UNCG the set win by two points and the match win.

The Spartans finish the three-match road trip with a trip to Johnson City, Tenn., to face ETSU Wednesday at 6 p.m.
