Gregory Claims SoCon Defensive Player of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior libero Christina Gregory (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) has earned her fourth Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week award, first this season, following her performance in four matches last week for UNCG volleyball. Gregory helped UNCG earn a 3-1 record during the week, winning its third consecutive Spartan-Aggie Invitational.
Gregory started all four matches, playing in all 15 sets. She averaged 4.67 digs per set, recording 70 throughout the week. She earned back-to-back 22 dig performances against Charlotte (8-29) and Presbyterian (9-1) before going for 18 in Saturday afternoon’s match at North Carolina A&T. Gregory led the team with eight digs in the week’s finale against Delaware State, as she split time at the libero spot with Grace Howell (Rockwall, Texas/Rockwall-Heath) and Anna Romaniszyn (Port Orange, Fla./Spruce Creek). She earned a .964 serve reception percentage, committing just one error. She also notched her second kill of the season against North Carolina A&T in her lone attack.
UNCG is back in action this Friday as it travels to Gainesville, Fla. for a matchup with the No. 2 Florida Gators in the Active Ankle Challenge. The Spartans will also take on No. 21 Michigan State Friday afternoon, and will finish the tournament against American Saturday.
