GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro women’s tennis team looks to rebound from a setback to Liberty in the season-opener when it hosts Coastal Carolina at the UNCG Tennis Courts on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m.
The Spartans will look to the duo of Sophia Adams and Brianna Gomez, who finished with 15 and 12 singles wins, respectively, a season ago to help secure the first team win of the slate. While Adams fell in straight sets to Liberty’s Kalania Soli, Gomez took her opponent, Alexandra Almborm, to three sets before suffering a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7) setback.
UNCG also got a solid singles performance from its lone senior, Nancy Bridges, who played from the No. 2 position against the Flames’ Maria Medina. Bridges grabbed the opening set victory, but fell in three by scores of 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-3).
Coastal Carolina is also in search of its first win of the season after falling 4-3 at the hands of visiting Campbell on Jan. 26. The Fighting Camels clinched the match in the singles clash between No. 4 seeds Lea Cutura and Jessie Mount. Cutura posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory to complete a sweep in both singles and doubles play.
