Women's Tennis Ends Fall Season at Coastal Carolina Fall Invite
CONWAY, S.C. – Women’s tennis finished up its 2016 fall schedule as it competed at the Coastal Carolina Fall Invitational over the weekend. The Spartans competed in a pair of singles matches, while working in three doubles competitions.
The weekend started with the Spartans doubles teams competing against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Alice Taylor (Cambridge, Great Britain/UMBC) and Sarah Swiderski (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) defeated Brooke Campbell of CCU, who partnered with Mia Covic of Campbell, 6-0.
In singles play, Masey DeMoss (Mayodan, N.C./McMichael) earned a three-set victory over Nastja Rettich of East Carolina, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. Sophia Adams (Miami, Fla./TERRA Environmental Institute) notched UNCG’s second singles victory over Maria Gomez (6-3, 7-6).
On the second day of the Invite, the Spartans took on the Chanticleers in singles competitions. Swiderski defeated Rylie Cox (6-3, 6-7, 10-7) for the lone victory in the match.
DeMoss and Corrine Blythe (Leicestershire, Great Britain/Queenswood School) knocked off East Carolina’s Gomez and Rettich, 6-0. Blaine Boaz (Dunwoody, Ga./Saint Pius X) and Taylor defeated Lisa Hofbauer and Celia Ruiz, 6-1.
Women’s tennis is back in action on January 21st as they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in the first match of the spring season.
