SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior tennis player Connor Thompson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents) earned the Southern Conference’s Player of the Week for his efforts last week. The Spartans dropped their SoCon opener with the ETSU Buccaneers in Johnson City, Tennessee, but Thompson earned a victory in his singles match. This is Thompson’s fourth time earning the SoCon’s Player of the Week award.
Thompson took the court in his familiar role of No. 1 singles. He faced off with ETSU’s Roberto Herrera who was ranked 121st in the nation. He handily defeated Herrera, 6-4, 6-1 to earn UNCG’s point in the match.
Thompson earned the Player of the Week award twice last season, en route to being named the SoCon’s Player of the Year. He also took home the award once during his sophomore season.
Men’s tennis is back in action next Monday when it hosts the Samford Bulldogs at 1 p.m. at the UNCG Tennis courts.
