GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s golf team hosts its annual fall tournament this weekend as the Spartans welcome in nine teams for the UNCG Grandover Collegiate Saturday and Sunday. The event will be played at the Grandover Resort on the East Course, which plays at par-72, 7245 yards. The two-day, 54-hole event begins Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start with live scoring available at www.golfstatresults.com

The Spartans’ starting lineup will tee off from holes No. 1-3 while their individuals will play from holes No. 15-18 Saturday. UNCG enters the weekend second in the Southern Conference with a team scoring average of 293.0 per round. The Spartans have posted four top-10 finishes this fall. Last year, UNCG finished sixth in its home event, which was played on the West Course at the Grandover Resort.

Joining the Spartans in the field includes No. 24 North Carolina, No. 28 Duke, No. 79 Virginia Tech, No. 73 Georgia State, Kansas State, VCU, No. 31 N.C. State, No. 56 Northwestern and Loyola (Md.).

Junior Bryce Hendrix (Greenville, N.C./D.H. Conley) leads the team and ranks third in the SoCon this year with a 72.58 stroke average. Hendrix finished third earlier this fall in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate for his top finish of the fall this year. He finished 10th last season on the West Course, posting a 6-under par 210 with rounds of 71-67-72.

Freshman Nick Lyerly (Salisbury, N.C./East Rowan) is second on the team and eighth in the league with a 73.25 stroke average through his first four collegiate events. Lyerly has posted two top-25 finishes this year, including a career-best 19th place showing at the Autotrader Collegiate last time out in Georgia.

Sophomore Jonathan Brightwell (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) checks in third in the lineup and third on the tam with a 74.00 stroke average. Brightwell placed 35th overall at last year’s event, posting and even-par with three straight rounds of 72.

Senior Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Southern Pines) finished 19th overall in the field in this event, posting a 4-under par 212 score with rounds of 71-72-69. Stockwell ranks fourth on the team this season with a 74.83 stroke average. Senior Joseph Cansler (Clemmons, N.C./Surry CC) rounds out the lineup with a 74.17 stroke average, having played just two events this year.

The Spartans will play five individuals this week at the UNCG Grandover Collegiate. Sophomore Ben Buben (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) owns a 76.92 stroke average while freshman Justin Emmons (Climax, N.C./Providence Grove) turns in a 76.17 stroke average. Redshirt freshman Regan Erhardt (Kernersville, N.C./Bishop McGuiness) has played three rounds this year and has a 74.67 stroke average while Michael Wicker (Rougemount, N.C./North Durham) owns a 78.67 stroke average in nine rounds. Junior Mark Johnston (Lewisville, N.C./West Forsyth) will be playing in his first event of the year this weekend.
