GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG junior men’s golfer Joseph Cansler (Clemmons, N.C./Surry CC) has been named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar the Golf Coaches Association of American (GCAA) announced Wednesday. Cansler is one of 260 student-athletes at the NCAA Division I level to earn All-America Scholar honors.
Cansler owns a 3.47 cumulative GPA and was named to the Southern Conference All-Academic Team. He played in all 30 rounds last season in the Spartans’ lineup and recorded a 73.83 stroke average, ranking fourth on the team. He finished 18th overall at the VCU Shootout to open the season and carded a career-best 68 in the second round of the Wolfpack Spring Open.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
