SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Highlighted by a memorable performance in the Irish Creek Intercollegiate followed by a second-straight Southern Conference Championship, UNC Greensboro men’s golf senior Bryce Hendrix has been named Player of the Month for April the conference office has announced.
Hendrix began the month of April in historic fashion, taking home the individual championship at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate with a 20-under 193 (66-65-62) at the par-71 course.
His nine-under 62 in the third round was an 18-hole program record as was his 54-hole score of 193, smashing the previously record of 203 set by Carter Jenkins at the 2013 Wolfpack Intercollegiate. For the tournament, the Greenville, N.C., native recorded 21 birdies – also a new school-best – against just one bogey.
Then in the SoCon Championship, Hendrix finished tied for sixth place at four-over 220 (74-72-74). It was the first time the program has won back-to-back SoCon Championships since joining the conference and the fourth conference championship overall since moving to Division I.
Hendrix and the rest of UNCG men’s golf will return to action May 13-15 at the NCAA Stanford Regional.
