SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a record-breaking performance at the 2019 Irish Creek Intercollegiate, UNC Greensboro men’s golf senior Bryce Hendrix has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week the league has announced.
Hendrix easily took home the individual championship in the tournament, leading the Spartans to their third tournament victory of the season. For the weekend at the par 71 course, Hendrix (66-65-62) finished at 20-under. His 62 in the third round was not only an 18-hole program record, his 54-hole score of 193 shattered the previous school record of 203 set by Carter Jenkins at the 2013 Wolfpack Intercollegiate and his 20-under also easily broke the school record for a score against par.
Additionally, Hendrix recorded 21 birdies during the weekend against only one bogey. The Greenville, N.C., native carded six-straight birdies on the back-nine in Sunday’s third round as well.
As a team, UNCG won the tournament as the Spartans finished the two days of play at 18-under 834. This is only the second time UNCG has won three tournaments in one year, as they also finished in first place at the UNCG Grandover Collegiate and the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate.
Up next for UNCG will be the Southern Conference Championships that will take place April 21-23 at Pinehurst No. 9 in Pinehurst, N.C.
