KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – UNC Greensboro men’s golf (280-277) heads into the third round of the 2019 Irish Creek Intercollegiate, which is taking place this weekend at The Club at Irish Creek, four strokes clear of the field. While the Spartans are 11-under through two rounds, Florida State sits in second place one stroke back at 10-under.

The Spartans’ 277 in the second round was the team’s second-lowest round score of the spring behind only the 273 recorded in the second round of the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate, a tournament UNCG would ultimately win.

UNCG also recorded 41 birdies on the day, seven more than any other school.

The third round will begin tomorrow morning and live stats will be available via Golfstat.com.

Senior Bryce Hendrix (66-65) currently leads the field at 11-under – five strokes better than anyone else in the tournament -- after the Greenville, N.C., native began the tournament by recording a five-under 66 in the first round at the par 71 course. Hendrix’s first 18 holes included five birdies and no holes over par. In the second round, Hendrix recorded a six-under 65 as he collected seven birdies to just one bogey.

Sophomore Nick Lyerly (71-71) was even-par 71 in the first round with three birdies offset by three bogeys. The Salisbury, N.C., native, would also finish the second round at 71. He is currently tied for 18th place.

Junior Jonathan Brightwell (71-73) was also even-par in the first round before completing the second round at two-over 73. Brightwell is currently tied for 37th place.

Sophomore Zack Swanson (75-69) is also tied for 37th place. He began the day at four-over 75 in the first round before carding a two-under 69 in the second round.

Junior Grant Powell (72-72) is also amongst the 12 golfers tied for 37th place after finishing both of Saturday’s rounds at one-over par.
